Trend Alert: Barbie-Approved Treats

Posted By RCI, Tuesday, August 1, 2023

It’s a Barbie™ world! Fans of all ages are tickled pink for the new Barbie movie! Here’s some ideas and inspiration for creating your own Barbie-approved treats.

Barbie’s Candy Salad
While the only thing actually reminiscent of a salad is the bowl it is served in, this shockingly sweet combination of pink candies and gummies coined “Barbie Candy Salad” has created quite the buzz on social media.

Invite customers to build their own candy salad mix by gathering all your Barbie-inspired treats for a pink-a-tastic display. RCI member, Savannah’s Candy Kitchen created this TikTok video to illustrate how fans can visit their store to make the “Ultimate Barbie Mix.”

Chocolate Princess Barbie
She really can be anything…even chocolate! Sarris Candies has crafted a moulded chocolate Princess Barbie, complete with sugar roses and a pink bow. And that box is everything!

When it comes to Barbie-themed treats, pralines probably aren’t the first thing that come to mind. This is why we love this Facebook post from RCI member River Street Sweets! With some strategic hot pink, a glitter starburst and pink roller skates they have transformed their signature pralines into a treat so sweet Barbie, herself, wouldn’t be able to resist!

With the popularity of the new Barbie movie, we don’t think the Barbie craze is going to fizzle out anytime soon! Look for ways to appeal to Barbie fans of all ages to continue celebrating this iconic doll through watch parties, birthday parties and other celebrations! Whether it’s a pop of pink or a generous sprinkle of (edible) glitter, presentation goes a long way!

For many, vibrant, sweet and juicy strawberries are a welcome sign that summer is here!

Roll out the red carpet, welcoming summer’s official berry (we think…) with five fresh, new ways to feature strawberry in your summer product lineup.

Strawberry Peanut Butter Cups
Put a fresh spin on the classic peanut butter cup with the addition of freshly slice strawberries. Click here for a recipe from California Strawberries.

Matcha-Covered Strawberries
Perhaps an unexpected twist on chocolate-covered strawberries, the addition of matcha powder to the white chocolate is sure to pique customer interest.

Chocolate Strawberry Pearls
With the slight crunch of dried strawberry in the center of layers of white chocolate and strawberry-flavored chocolate, these delicate pearls made by Bridgewater Chocolate are an elegant way to showcase strawberries.

Strawberry Pretzel Bark
Here’s a new take on the summertime classic, strawberry pretzel dessert. With its natural berry notes, ruby chocolate is a natural fit for pairing with strawberries.

Strawberry Shortcake Truffles
Combining all the creamy, salty, buttery, fruity, unforgettably tasty flavors of strawberry shortcake in a single bite, Milk Bar’s strawberry shortcake cake truffles are made with strawberry-studded vanilla cake, soaked in strawberry milk and rolled in strawberry shortcake crumbs. Milk Bar’s founder and television personality, Christina Tosi, shares her recipe here.

With strawberries popping up in farmers markets across the country, now is the time to take advantage of your local harvest. Even if you don’t follow some of these recipes exactly, use them as inspiration to create a recipe that is totally unique to your brand!

Here’s wishing you a sweet, strawberry kind of summer!

EGGS-tra Easter Egg Inspiration

Posted By RCI, Tuesday, March 22, 2022
Updated: Wednesday, April 13, 2022

How do you like your eggs?

And by that, we mean Easter eggs? April 17 will be here before we know it, but there’s still time to introduce some fresh ideas when it comes to chocolate Easter eggs. This week, we’re featuring EGGS-tra Easter eggs to help spark your imagination.

Smash Eggs
Say “goodbye” to hot cocoa bombs and “hello” to smash eggs! Many chocolatiers already have a hollow Easter egg mould in their toolkit, but what do you fill it with? Depending on the size of your mould, you may want to fill your smash egg with jelly beans, miniature foiled chocolates, truffles, chocolate-covered mini pretzels, chocolate-covered nuts and/or berries, etc.

Some other unique ideas we’ve seen are eggs filled with tiny white chocolate chicks (cue “aww!”) and the more unexpected mini chocolate dinosaurs (cue gasp!). For even more dramatic effect, don’t forget the sprinkles, which will undoubtedly go flying upon impact between the egg and the mallet!

We love how RCI members Anderson’s Candies and Sarris Candies displayed their colorful smash eggs on their Facebook pages!

Easter Egg Overflow
There’s no surprise what you’re getting with Aldi’s Curious Inventions Easter Eggs! These Easter eggs are so packed with flavor, the contents are bursting through the chocolate shell. Although this does create a nice visual effect, the flavor combinations are just as intriguing.

There are six different varieties, such as banoffee (banana, caramel and butterscotch flavors); salted pretzel and orange; cookies and cream; popping candy; strawberries and cream (with real freeze-dried strawberry pieces) and the Billionaire egg, featuring chocolate and caramel fudge, white chocolate covered cookies and honeycomb candy.

Easter Egg Bark
Who says Easter eggs have to be three-dimensional? Here’s two examples of eggs that, despite their shape, don’t fall flat on the delivery!

It’s eggs-on-eggs-on-eggs with this chocolate bark by the LittleSugar Snaps blog that features loads of popular egg-themed candies. We love the swirls of color on the eggs by the Chocolate Pizza Company, plus the addition of a beautifully scribed name is an extra special touch.

Fruity Follies

These fruity lookalikes will have you doing a double-take! With a little imagination, Melt London transforms a standard three-dimensional egg into a strawberry filled with a chocolate strawberry cake.

Fruit lovers will undoubtedly fall for these lifelike pomegranate and lemon-shaped moulded chocolates sold by British grocery retailer, Waitrose. The pomegranate is made with caramelized white chocolate and real pomegranate, while the lemon version features white chocolate infused with zesty lemon flavors.

Animal-Themed Eggs
Take a walk on the wild side when pulling your inspiration from this barnyard bunch by Australian chocolatier,  Cacao or try a more abstract approach with the animal prints created for fashion designer Roberto Cavalli’s Italian coffee shop.

No matter if you like your chocolate Easter eggs more traditional or if you prefer a more unconventional approach, we hope this week’s post offers plenty of sweet inspiration this season!

Personalized

Personalization can help achieve a greater impact without having to spend a fortune on materials. Print directly onto craft paper treats bags or purchase printable labels. Your local craft store will have a variety of paper punches in various shapes and sizes from a 2-inch circle punch to an ornate gift tag punch.

RCI member, Dietsch Brothers, uses a Cricut® cutting machine to create personalized tags to accompany their wedding favors. Dietsch Brothers offers a simple order form for event tags. The order form includes options for tag shapes and six choices of messages. Clients can further customize their tags by adding their names and/or wedding date, in addition to choosing between cream or white card stock, as well as the color of text to match their wedding colors.

If you’re not interested in purchasing equipment, Canva is a great alternative for creating professional-looking custom designs even if you have zero graphic design experience. This user-friendly platform offers thousands of custom templates and stock images, as well as easy-to-follow tutorials claiming to make you a “design pro in minutes.” Canva offers free and paid subscriptions.

Packaging

Even if you offer individually wrapped confections, a winning wedding favor is all about the presentation. The right packaging can help create a memorable way to commemorate the newlyweds and thank their guests for partaking in their nuptial ceremony. From sleek and modern to playful and crafty, there is packaging to fit every couple and every budget.

Sleek folded boxes in matte white or clear acetate tied with a satin bow, offer a luxurious touch. For a more creative and playful approach, hot chocolate mix can be packaged in food-safe tubes. Adding personal touches to ordinary packaging (like the mini popcorn boxes and coffee cups with customized sleeves pictured above) makes it feel elevated and fun.

Together with personalization, classic or creative packaging could help soon-to-be-wed couples fall in love with your wedding favors. Share your creative wedding favor ideas in the comments below.
