CLEVELAND, OH – June 20, 2018 - Retail Confectioners International (RCI), a trade association serving the chocolate and confectionery industry, recently awarded the 2018 Henry J. Bornhofft Memorial Award at their Annual Convention & Industry Expo. Jacques De Waele, Sales Manager for Savage Brothers Company, was this year’s honored recipient.

“Jacques is a tireless advocate, not only for our company, but for each candy maker he meets and the industry overall. He has committed many hours to his role serving on RCI’s Board of Directors and he enjoys working with and learning from confectioners around the country. All of us at Savage are extremely proud that Jacques has been selected for this impressive award and honor,” stated Bob Parmley, President of Savage Brothers Company.

Born in Ghent, Belgium, De Waele immigrated to the United States in 1970 and became a United States citizen in 1982. He is fluent in five languages and currently serves Savage clients located in the Western United States and Canada, and for the Canadian province of Quebec. As the first outside sales employee of the modern Savage Brothers Company, De Waele’s strong work ethic and exceptional social skills quickly demonstrated the value of having a person knowledgeable in Savage machinery available to visit with candy makers in his territory.

Due to his dedication to RCI and the industry, the Board of Directors felt he was the best choice for this honor. "Jacques has been an incredible supporter of the confectionery industry. His loyalty and commitment does not go unnoticed, and we were privileged to present him with this award recognizing his contributions," says Steve Vande Walle, Vande Walle’s Candies, 2017-2018 RCI President of the Board.

“Being the recipient of the Henry J. Bornhofft Award has humbled me as never before but has also energized me to strive even more to be yet a better person than I have ever been,” said De Waele. “This is a great honor that my peers have bestowed on me.”

The Henry J. Bornhofft Memorial Award was established by the RCI board of directors in 1985. Each year a member of the confectionery industry is selected to receive the Henry J. Bornhofft Memorial Award at the annual convention in June. The recipient is a stand-out supplier member, who has exhibited many years of outstanding leadership, loyalty, friendship and has made significant contributions to the confectionery industry.
