Today, the farmers growing the world’s cocoa, their families and the communities in which they live remain challenged by the lack of access to life’s basic needs. Clean water, nutritional food, heath care and a basic education are simply not a daily option for far too many of our cocoa farming partners. Within the confectionery and chocolate industry, there is a strong desire to help these communities, yet there is little knowledge of how or mechanisms available to do so. It was with this in mind that Blommer developed L.I.F.T. Cocoa (Livelihood Infrastructure Food & Technology).

L.I.F.T. provides the ability to make a serious impact on the day to day lives of cocoa farmers and helps to build thriving communities for the long term benefit of our most crucial partner. To demonstrate their continued efforts in sustainability, Blommer has made a commitment to support the L.I.F.T. initiative through its premium Founder’s Reserve Line of chocolate.

A portion of the proceeds generated by Founder’s Reserve will directly fund the building of water wells with borehole pumps that will provide clean water to thousands of individuals. Two villages in Cote d’Ivoire, Baleyo and Koffibakro, have been selected in phase one of this initiative. These villages were chosen because most of the current water supply is collected from surrounding ponds and hand-dug wells that are exposed to contamination and to drying out during the dry season.  The planned wells will provide Baleyo and Koffibakro safe drinking water to 300 families representing nearly 3,000 people. Purchasing Founder’s Reserve chocolate directly helps to provide necessary infrastructure for cocoa farming communities.

As a global cocoa processor and ingredient chocolate supplier, Blommer Chocolate Company’s sustainability goal is to support farmers to keep pace with market demand for chocolate and ensure their economic viability for generations to come. Founded in 1939 by Henry Blommer, the company has long been a steward in pioneering sustainable cocoa farming and advancing farmers’ livelihood around the globe. Today, Blommer continues this vision, fully recognizing the importance of a long term multigenerational view. These initiatives are the foundation of the Founder’s Reserve line of chocolate supporting Blommer’s L.I.F.T. Cocoa program. The company is continuing to build toward the vision Henry started by committing Founder’s Reserve to investing in systems to provide clean drinking water to cocoa farming communities.

As an industry leader, Blommer believes sustainability efforts in cocoa communities provide value at every touch point in the supply chain through improved and more consistent quality and a sustainable future for cocoa farming families.
