2019 Winter FAQs

How do I find further information about Costa Rica and travel safety?
For further information on travel safety, RCI encourages you to visit the U.S. Department of State website. It is recommended that all attendees also register individually for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) which helps you stay informed and safe while traveling internationally.

Do I need a passport to travel to Costa Rica?
Yes, a passport is necessary for travel to Costa Rica. Passports must be valid for the length of your stay and must have a minimum of 1 blank page per entry stamp available.

Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is not required; however, RCI highly recommends that you obtain coverage to include medical, lost luggage and cancellation insurance.

Travel insurance may be purchased at any time, but to cover pre-existing conditions, you must be medically able to travel on the day you purchase your policy, and you must insure the full cost of your trip within 14 days of paying your $500 trip deposit

We recommend booking international travel insurance through Allianz. When requesting a quote, select "International Travel" as the plan type, complete your travel dates, age of travels and state of residence. In the total trip cost, be certain to include the total cost of what you will pay to RCI for registration expenses in addition to airfare and any additional anticipated purchases. Lastly, select your plan based on the amount of coverage you prefer.

What type of physical shape do I need to be in to participate?
Attendees should be able to walk and stand for long periods of time before resting.

I have a special diet, can this be accommodated?
RCI will do its best to make sure all of your dietary needs are met during the tour. Please email by August 17, 2018 if you have any special needs.

Where are the cities we will be visiting?
