Bayco Confectionery Inc.
Bayco Confectionery has been producing Turkish Delight since 1984, using a Turkish recipe which has been passed down through the generations. As one of the only manufacturers of authentic Turkish Delight in North America, Bayco Confectionery uses all-natural ingredients to create their many varieties of Turkish Delight - pistachio by far being their most popular nut-based product.

Attendees will get to view the 3,000 square foot production facility and, depending on production timing, the cooling process of the product.
The C Shop 




Patrick and Patricia Alesse opened The C Shop in 1971. Located in Birch Bay near the sea, the store was named after the many items they wanted to sell - cotton candy, caramel corn, caramel apples, chocolate, cake donuts and local crafts. In 1979, they moved to their current location and the following year began a cafe with homemade breads and sandwiches. Patrick and Patricia were delighted to have their son, Keith, and his partner, Saara, join the team in 2009. With the four of them plus over 50 employees, they have made numerous improvements in products and efficiency.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view small batch candy making and see how The C Shop has added modern technology to older equipment to keep costs down while improving production.



Friday, September 23, 2016 - Tour Day

Charlie's Chocolate Factory
Charlie Sigvardsen opened Charlie's Chocolate Factory in 1971 with about 1,200 square feet and has been in the same location ever since. Through several expansions, Charlie's Chocolate Factory now occupies the entire building with about 4,500 square feet of production area and 4,500 square feet of retail space in addition to an off-site warehouse location. Today Charlie's sons, Colin and Blair, and granddaughter, Ellen, are also involved.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view Charlie's chocolate river, retail area and production facility which includes enrobing, hand dipping, foil wrapping and pump machines.
Chewters Chocolates




With over 120 years of industry experience combined, Chewters is a manifestation of the talents and experience of Chocolate Experience Officer (CEO) Richard Foley and his partners Wade Pugh and Tony Canino. Chewters was founded in 1984 with a strong focus on the hospitality trade, including turndown chocolates, in-suite boutique items, candies and mints. In 2014, Chewters partnered with ChocXO Bean-to-Bar Chocolatier to launch ChocXO as a premium bean-to-bar chocolate brand in the USA and Canada. Most recently, in 2015, Chewters purchased Dynamic Chocolates and has increased its contract manufacturing capabilities tenfold.

Attendees will visit the 55,000 square foot manufacturing facility to tour their research and development lab as well as view their high-speed moulding line.




Purdys Chocolatier
In 1907 Richard Carmon Purdy set up his first chocolate shop which came to be known as "R.C. Purdy Chocolates Limited." After being sold to the Forrester family, Purdy's was again up for sale in 1963 when Charles Flavelle and Eric Wilson took proud ownership. By 1980, Purdy's had grown to 28 stores and in 1982, they moved into a 57,000 square foot factory. Charles' daughter, Karen, joined the company in 1994 and assumed the role of President in 1997, moving the company in an exciting direction and opening many stores over the years. In 2012 Peter Higgins became President while Karen remains the owner and CEO. Today, Purdy's has 75 retail stores across three provinces of Canada.

Attendees will be able to view a wide range of manufacturing processes, packaging lines and how new flavors are developed in their test kitchen.
