Bernard Pacyniak has been the editor-in-chief of Candy Industry magazine since 2001. Prior to that, he was editor of its sister publication, Snack Food and Wholesale Baking, having joined BNP Media's Food, Beverage and Packaging Division in 1994. Pacyniak has more than 30 years experience in B-to-B magazine publishing as a writer and editor, the bulk of that time spent covering the baking, snack and confectionery industries. He has won several press writing awards.
David Burton is the owner of The Capital Candy Jar in Washington DC. He has been making candy since he was 14 years old. In 2014, Burton decided to make his dream of owning his own business a reality, so he left a successful career as a marketing consultant and started his own candy business. His confections have been featured by much of his local press, and he also was a featured confectioner on an episode of The Food Network's Rewrapped.
|Marketing Outside of the Box

This two-part session will focus on creative marketing techniques for the retail confectioner. First, learn how to strengthen your brand by incorporating your company history into the marketing plan. Second, find out how to promote your brand through events that also benefit your local community.
Anna is a fourth generation owner of Dolle's Candyland in Ocean City, Maryland. Her concentrations are in marketing and project management. Bushnell uses her love of history and all things candy to combine the two worlds which are depicted in the company's brand in everything from print ads to candy packaging.
Bill Hartley, a retired police officer, and Pam Hartley, a former executive secretary, purchased Joy Lyn's Candies in 2000 and became the fourth owners of the business. The Hartley's have doubled sales and created several award winning candy pieces as well as created the Paradise Chocolate Fest, a fundraising event in their community to celebrate chocolate.

Virginia Whetstone Maguire has been in the chocolate business for over 30 years supplying her own retail stores and wholesale customers. In the mid-1990's, Whetstone Chocolates expanded into contract manufacturing producing chocolates for Hershey, M&M/Mars, Nestle and Mauna Loa. It was through this larger scale production Maguire gained extensive knowledge in quality assurance practices including writing the company's HAACP program.

Kip Walk is Blommer Chocolate's Corporate Director of Sustainability, designing, implementing and managing Blommer's global sustainability efforts from farming through to customer product. Walk has also served as Chairman of the industry's leading sustainability organization, the World Cocoa Foundation.
