RCI Convention Honors 100-Year Tradition of Sweet Education

SPRINGFIELD, MO – May 11, 2017 – Can a story make a sale? Keynote Speaker and Founder of StoryStudio Chicago, Jill Pollack says, “You bet it can!”

In the keynote education session “Stories Matter,” at Retail Confectioners International’s (RCI) Annual Convention & Industry Expo, Jill Pollack will uncover why and how stories work in our lives and in our work. “[As candy makers,] your family and business history is already ripe with the stuff stories are made of,” says Pollack. “[Attendees will] learn how to harness those tales of success and shape them for different audiences.”

Education has been a pillar of the RCI experience for 100 years. Leveraging company stories to increase sales is just one of the topics presented during the annual event hosted June 12-16, 2017 at The Westin Lombard in Lombard, Illinois. “As an association, we exist to help retail confectioners succeed and this event is one of the ways we do that,” says Angie Burlison, RCI Executive Director. “Through formal education sessions, as well as, the confectionery suppliers’ expo and store tours, we provide a comprehensive and relevant educational experience for small business owners both established and new to the industry.”

In addition to the keynote session “Stories Matter,” attendees will learn how to get the maximum impact out of marketing and production through educational sessions which include the following:

  • Food Safety and Regulations, presented by Mike Koch, Morley Candy Makers/Sanders Candy
  •  Finding Efficiency in Recipe Formulation, presented by Eric Schmoyer, Barry Callebaut, U.S.A.
  • Sweet Success with Social Media, presented by Amber and Edgar Murans, Left Hand Marketing
  • Tools and Techniques to Improve Your Business, presented by Richard Gordon, Centric Consulting

Education sessions will be presented on Tuesday, June 13 and Wednesday, June 14. While the event is hosted by RCI, all confectionery professionals are invited to attend. A variety of ticket packages are available, giving attendees the option to create an experience that fits their schedule and budget. RCI offers a 1-Day Education Ticket for just $200 for those looking to focus on strictly on education.
