ON TUESDAY THE 24TH OF AUGUST JACK WENT IN FOR A PROSTRATE BIOPSY. THIS MORNING THE DOCTOR CALLED AND SAID IT WAS PROSTRATE CANCER. HE SAID THAT HE HAD FOUND OUT THE CANCER WAS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PROSTRATE AND IT SEEMED TO BE THE KIND THAT WAS VERY AGGRESSIVE. HE WILL DO A CAT SCAN ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD AT 10:30 IN THE MORNING. THE BONE SCAN HAS NOT BEEN SCHEDULED YET. THE SCANS WILL BE TO SEE IF THE CANCER HAS SPREAD. HE WANTS BOTH SCANS TO HAPPEN QUICKLY.

RCI extends its sympathies to the family of Pat Magee
Our sympathies go out to the family of Pat Magee of P Magee Enterprises for the loss of Pat's mom, Janet Mae Magee. She was born January 17, 1924 in Quarryville, PA and left this life on July 16, 2010 after a brief illness. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 7:30 P.M. at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. David M. Myers officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. until the time of the service. 2010 Bornhofft Winner Named
David Floreani from Savage Brothers was the recipient of the Henry Bornhoft Award at the 90th Annual National Convention & Industry Expo held in Lexington, Kentucky. While David was not able to accept it in person at the event, he was reached by phone during the awards banquet and he addressed the attendees. Javier Sanchez from Savage accepted the award on his behalf and presented it to David at their offices.

Peter’s® chocolate ambassador Elaine González to retire in June
LITITZ, PA – Elaine González, Master Chocolatier Emerita and ambassador for Cargill’s Peter’s® chocolate brand, will retire after making her final appearance at the RCI Annual National Convention and Industry Exposition in June 2010. González will be demonstrating chocolate handling and sculpting at the Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate booth during the convention and will be the keynote speaker at the formal dinner following the event.
“Elaine has been the creative and artistic face of Peter’s® chocolate for 27 years,” said Don Pearson, president, Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate. “She has dedicated her professional life to the artistry of chocolate…and the chocolate industry at large…Peter’s is forever indebted to Elaine for her grace, professionalism, and passion.”
Throughout her career, González has been a famed teacher at institutions such as The Culinary Institute of America, Chocolate Boot Camp and Merchandising Boot Camp for Retail Confectioners International and The Wilton School of Confectionery Art. For almost 20 years, Elaine also led tours of Mexico, exploring cacao plantations in Tabasco, observing chocolate traditions in Oaxaca, and studying ancient chocolate rituals in Mayan and Zapotec villages.
Over the years, she has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Henry J. Bornhofft Memorial Award for outstanding instructional contributions to the confectionery industry, as well as receiving the candy industry’s highest honor: induction into the Candy Hall of Fame.

O'Shea's is Award Winning Business
O'Shea's Candies has been in business in Johnstown, Pennsylvania since 1934. They have recently been awarded the 'Best Candy Award' in Johnstown, Pennsylvania by the readers of the Johnstown Magazine, a national publication that is shipped all over the USA. They were presented a plaque of congratulations that is now proudly hung in their stores.
Museum Looking for Antique Candy Items
The Sloan Museum in Flint, MI currently has a display about the history of candy in the Flint area. They are in need of some antique molds, equipment, packaging etc. for display. If anyone has items they would consider loaning them (with proper recognition) please have them contact Carol Schuler, Sweet Variations in Fenton, Michigan at sweetvariations@gmail.com Carol's store is already part of the display as an interactive exhibit showing how candy makers make chocolate. The display will run through the year and the museum would like to change and update it periodically.

Our sympathies go out to Carol and Joe Zanetos of Anthony-Thomas Candy Company for the loss of Joe's mom, Agnes Zanetos on Saturday, May 15th, she was 89 years old. There will be a showing on Monday, May 17th from 4:00 - 8:00pm at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home located at 1177 W. Fifth Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43232. The funeral service will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 555 N. High Street on Tuesday, May 18th, at 11:00am with a luncheon following the service. RCI Mourns the Loss of Longtime Colleague
Robert J. Burke Jr., 85, of Lincolnshire formerly of Glenview, IL, born into eternal life on Holy Thursday April 1, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from Mt. Carmel HS. He attended Loyola University. He was a WWII veteran of the Merchant Marines. Mr. Burke was the former owner of Burke Products Company for over 50 yrs after his father started the business in 1929. He was actively involved in the candy industry. Member of Candy Production Club of Chicago, Retail Confectioners International, National Candy Association and American Association Candy Technologists. His beloved wife of 55 years Elizabeth Burke passed away in 2004. Robert was cherished father of Robert III (Susan), Elizabeth (Michael) Smith, John Martin, Timothy (Julia), Patrick (Patricia) and Mary (Mark) Walther; dear grandfather of Benjamin and Claire Burke, Megan Smith and Maureen (Jeff) Willson, Peter, Catherine and Edward Burke, Patrick, Colleen, Andrew, Margaret and Daniel Burke, Brian and Erin Walther; great-grandfather of Finn Willson. Visitation: Thursday, April 8 from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 991 S. Waukegan Rd. Lake Forest. Interment : All Saints Cemetery. RCI Member Chocovision Corporation Teaches the Staff of Carlo's Bakery How to Use Their Tempering Machines
Longtime RCI members and chocolate experts, Joe and Mary Crevino, had an extra sweet Valentine's week this year. They were given the opportunity to teach Buddy Valastro and the staff of Carlo's City Hall Bake Shop, site of The Cake Boss on the TLC Network, in Hoboken, New Jersey. They brought chocolate tempering machines and chocolate in the back door of the bakery and taught the crew how to make chocolate covered strawberries just in time for Valentine's Day.
 
RCI Family Members Experience Loss of Loved Ones
Our deepest sympathies are extended to the Sarris family for the loss of founder and owner of Sarris Candies, Frank Sarris, a member of RCI since 1963. He passed away in his home Monday evening, March 1, 2010. Mr. Sarris, the son of Greek immigrants, started his chocolate enterprise with a single store in Canonsburg; it has since grown to be a large regional candy company. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sarris family.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to Mike Koch of Morley Brands LLC and 1st Vice President of RCI, and his entire family on the loss of his brother James Robert Koch. He lost his battle with cancer on February 10, 2010. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Koch family.

2. Type in your username and password
If you've forgotten your username and password, click on the box that says, "forgot my
username and password." You will be prompted to enter your email address so a new password can be emailed to you. If you've forgotten your email address you originally gave RCI, members can simply call the RCI office at 800-545-5381 and your information can be entered into the database so you can gain access to the member side of the website.
